Oaks & Acorns is looking for new members for our Board of Directors.

Most of all, it is essential for nonprofits to have a strong organizational structure. Furthermore, this structure is built through the board of directors. But, what exactly is a board of directors, and what role does a board play within our nonprofit? In order to answer these questions, and many more, our Executive Director, Kia Bordner, has written a primer. We have uploaded a slide presentation of the primer below for anyone considering applying to sit on our board. 

First of all, watch our primer on the roles, responsibilities, & duties of being on a non-profit Board of Directors. In the primer, we provide the essential information to help prospective applicants fully understand what is expected from board members. In addition, learn about the 3 main roles; establish organizational identity, ensure resources, & provide oversight.

Consequently, these carry 10 responsibilities;

    4.  4. select the Executive Director
    5.  5. secure adequate financial resources
    6.  6. enhance the organization’s public standing

    10. 10. monitor programs & services

Then, understand the 3 legal duties of serving on a nonprofit board; duty of care, duty of loyalty, & duty of obedience. Finally, there are self-reflection questions to consider before applying. Most noteworthy, these questions will help you determine if board membership is for you. While you examine these concepts, please keep in mind the purpose of serving on a nonprofit board is to fulfill the mission. And we want you to be excited about our vision. In conclusion, after reading our primer, you will be well prepared to serve as an Oaks & Acorns board member.
